Finally, the day I have been waiting for.
Since two years of age, Adri has been attending Sunday School. No matter how hard we tried, it was impossible for us to leave the classroom. We tried both pep talks and sneaking off. Neither worked. Adri just had her eyes glued to us.
Today, however, Adri waved goodbye to me (apprehensively) and went to class on her own.
This is what she said:
Mummy, I am a brave girl. I don't need you in Sunday School anymore.
You can just imagine how elated I was when I heard that! Imagine! I have waited more than 2 years for that! I have tried to sneak off sooo many times, only to have my sister's helper looking for me at the Nursery Room minutes later, informing me about a bawling Adri (my nephew Joash used to attend the same Sunday School class).
Today, I stood outside Adri's classroom, beaming away as I sneakily peeked at how she participated in the activities. It helped that this Sunday School class is a small group, comprising of only around ten pupils. The warm, enthusiastic yet firm teachers (that kept the kiddos in check) were an added bonus.
Mummy is proud of Adri and is definitely looking forward to further displays of independence and confidence. I'm looking forward to Adri waving goodbye to me heartily moments before she attends her other enrichment classes.
Anticipating. :)

A Haircut
While many parents struggle to take their kiddos for haircuts, I'm very thankful that taking Adri for haircuts has always been a breeze.
The only challenging once was when Adri had her first haircut. Then, she cried a little. Since that once, not only is prior preparation not needed, Adri totally doesn't mind going for haircuts and replies with an enthusiastic "Yes" each time I ask her if she would like to go for a haircut. On the salon chair, Adri takes instructions well and doesn't move around.
Today, I've progressed to sitting on the waiting bench (for customers in queue) instead of sitting next to her. :)
My brave girl. She's going to hv her hair trimmed.

Kodak Time with Adri!
Grabbed hold of Adri while she was in a good mood and had her take a few shots with Mummy.
Adri was in a good mood indeed. Instead of struggling to break free, Adri willingly made some monkey faces.
Very rare an opportunity!

Kiddy Ride
It's become so habitual to have Adri request for a kiddy ride or two whenever we are out and her requests are usually granted.
We were at City Square Mall when we chanced upon this queer kiddy ride. Adri requested for a try and we allowed her to.
Adri was very tickled by the fact that she got to control the vehicle through the use of joysticks. Unlike the usual kiddy rides which had a steering wheel where the driver could only steer clock or anticlockwise, this kiddy ride required the rider to control the joysticks with a up-down and/or left-right movement. It was nostalgia for me but sheer novelty for Adri!
This time round, instead of trying to cover the greatest distance possible, Adri found greater joy and satisfaction at hitting the joysticks and having the vehicle take a turn every few seconds! What an unusual way of riding a kiddy ride!

Adri @ Sunday School
Today is the second time Adri attended a new Sunday School class. I was with Adri and I am terribly amazed at how patient the teachers were.
It's a typical kiddo classroom where you have kids who can't seem to sit still, who chatter non stop, who shout at the top of their voices, who interrupt with unrelated questions, who whine about one another and who hit the teachers (one of them)!
There were so many times where the teacher in me / mummy in me wanted to stand up and address the kiddos with a firm tone and on a few occasions, scold the lesser well-behaved ones. Had to remind myself to take a back seat.
I reckon I really don't have the patience to be childcare /nursery/kindergarten/ lower primary teacher! I was so quick to want to nag/scold but the teachers had 1001 ideas n tricks up their sleeves to distract the kiddos and divert their attention.
Kudos to the Sunday School teachers, lots of patience required, REALLY.

Another Sister?
Approximately a year ago...
Mummy: How many baby sister or brother would you like to have, Adri?
Adri: Two! I would like to have two sisters!
Yesterday...
Mummy: Would you like to have another baby brother or sister, Adri?
Adri: No.
Mummy (surprised): Why, Adri?
Adri: Because I only love Mei Mei Ashlynn.
Mummy laughs!

No Sharing?
Mummy: Ashlynn, share your food with Jie Jie?
Ashlynn immediately pulls her box of KFC snackers close to her, hugs it and shakes her head.
The shocked yet amused mummy tries to take the box of snackers away from Ashlynn, all whilst coaxing her but the intelligent Ashlynn pulls the box back n again, shakes her head in protest!
Oh my! Ashlynn doesn't want to share!
Mummy just had to laugh!

A Wet Day @ the Zoo!
It has been a long time since we visited the zoo. We have always been friends of zoo and we frequented the zoo. The zoo is one of Adri's favourite hunt.
The recent house hunting, selling and shifting really occupied our Saturdays we have not been regular at taking our girls out, and needless to say, visit the zoo.
Adri gets a day off from her music class today (not becos Mummy had allowed her to 'play truant' but becos her teacher could not make it for class) and we decided to pack the girls off to the zoo! Took a quick check at the weather this morning and the skies looked alright at our end (Paya Lebar)! So off we went (that's how the Wong family function - decide where we want to go and off we go! No fuss, not much prior planning required.).
En route, alas, it started to drizzle! Did we go ahead with our little expedition? We did. It was a drizzle that ended within half an hour and we didn't want to disappoint the all-ready and bursting with energy Adri.
We had our breakfast at the zoo and the day started well. We rented a cart and just as a measure of precaution, we bought ponchos for the girls in case it poured.
The ponchos we bought were put to good use. Shortly into our little expedition, it started to pour.
While Adri was excited to have spotted her all-time favourite ie. the orang utans, the monkeys and the giant tortoises, she was disappointed that she didn't get to play at the kids water playground.
To make up for that, Mummy allowed Adri to play in the rain since she had her poncho donned. I suppose that was one of Adri's greatest takeaways; for the first in 4+ years, Mummy allowed her to play in the rain. Alongside, she underwent a short Science lesson on the function of a poncho and the properties of the material used. Nothing beats a personal experience and Mummy is glad to have provided Adri with the experience of not getting wet whilst standing in the heavy downpour! :)
Another precious takeaway was the sighting of a mother sea cow caressing a baby sea cow! What a teachable moment! Mummy of course seized the moment to reinforce that all mummies love their young and that is true even in the animal kingdom.

The Alphabet Zoo
Another of Mummy's attempt to immerse Adri in phonics!
Going pleasantly well thus far, Adri is able to activate her prior knowledge and piece together the sounds that she's heard from this CD and that which she has learnt in school; she's able to suggest more nouns that start with the corresponding sounds. A good start! :D

Just Ashlynn
We were waiting for Daddy. Daddy was (as usual) admiring his 'metallic wives'. Ashlynn had a good time running around the artificial grass.
Something so simple can make our lil' ones so happy!
Contentment.
We should learn from these lil' ones, shouldn't we? :)
