Hear No Nagging?

Can't remember what I was reminding Ashlynn about. While i was doing what all mums are good at doing ie incessant nagging, Ashlynn started by giving me the deepest frown she could. I thought she had difficulty understanding me! Little did I know that she had 觉得我很烦!
She soon had a plan...She decided that she would 'escape' from my naggings by not looking at me! To her,

not looking at Mummy = Mummy is not nagging!

Soooo funny! She shook her head continuously all whilst keeping her eyes shut and only stopped when I paused! I resumed, she continued!

If Ashlynn had been a year older, that would have been plain rude but well, she's only 2! Mummy was extremely tickled!
她好古灵精怪!!

Adri & Chinese Language

I've always considered myself to be effectively bilingual. Though I achieved an A2 for Chinese Language during the O levels, I was still considered to be the 'disgrace' of the family; every one in my family had high distinction (A1) for their O Level Chinese! Gosh, I still remember how my high spirits was dampened when the praise I had expected to receive, for having achieved a distinction, though low, for my O Level CL, was dampened when my sister showed displeasure. I still find it amazing that my siblings found little difficulty with CL back then.

Probably because I have never taken a real interest for CL, I have subconsciously been neglecting Adri's acquisition of the CL, though I know that it's absolutely important.

In my attempt to make up for that, I started Adri on Berries class. Berries is renowned, highly complimented by almost every colleague of mine who sends their kids there.

Was at a sale one day when my conscience pricked and I forced myself to browse Chinese instead of English books. Not that I didn't in the past but it was often done in a jiffy.
After a good puzzling 30 minutes, i decided to pick up a few Chinese books meant for beginning readers. My plan was to read to her as frequently as I could (I still have not since I bot those books!).

Adri was neutral; she didn't look excited with the purchase of the CL books, neither was she upset.

Neutral, she was.

I had not expected her to be interested in those books. I was pleasantly surprised! Adri picked up one of the books on her own and she managed 12 chapters with 90% accuracy!! Mummy was busy with I can't remember what when I heard her reading aloud. Not expressive reading but certainly a bonus for a start. Each chapter is a build up of the previous and it begins with the targeted vocabulary in insolation, followed by it in application, in a sentence or two. Adri managed the sentences well! I was overjoyed! I had been so worried that Adri would grow up to be a 'potato', proficient in the English Language and weak in the CL or having an inclination to avoid or even disliking it totally.

Credit does not go to Berries alone. No doubt Adri has been enjoying every single Berries class, her CL teacher back in school has also done a marvellous job at instilling a love for the language; Adri did return home humming or singing a Chinese song at times but this lazy mummy did not reinforce that love.

Gosh, I really hope Adri won't grow up struggling with CL like I did. I must remember to converse with Adri in Chinese, lest it reaches a point where Adri asks me, "Mummy, why are you speaking to me in Chinese?"

Irresistible Ashlynn

My irresistible baby. I can't stop hugging her and kissing her. She's so cheeky, so expressive, so bright, so doll-like, so funny, so cute, so jovial, so entertaining!

Mart casually commented that Adri had a lot of post bath/shower pictures while Ashlynn didn't. Hence we went snapping away with our handy mobile phone and uploading the pics with my handy mobile phone app!
Phew, thank God for the genius who made ICT so convenient n always within reach...

Ashlynn does have her sister's (signature) pouty lips! =)

Sweets & Savouries

2 other items I've tried baking - Oreo cheesecake and egg tarts.

Adri was supposed to help in the Oreo Cheesecake but it ended up a DIY. It took me pretty long to sort out the proportions! Now that I've managed to figure things out, I shall venture into other varieties of cheesecake soon! Say, strawberry cheesecake? Adri will be my co-chef!

The egg tarts was my longest baking session thus far, it took me more than 2 hours! But well, that was cos mummy did the dough twice. In the first, I mixed the batter with the use of a handheld electric mixer instead of kneading it into a dough and as a result, the dough was too slimy and it broke into bits readily. The moulding of the crust also took quite a while. I started with a cookie cutter for the right thickness but eventually decided on a shortcut ie to simply mould from a round ball of dough (and hence the uneven crust thickness).
Hubby loves egg tarts but it'll take me a while before I try that again. Cuppies r lots manageable for now! :)

Milk Tea Cuppies

I'm into baking recently. I find it an activity that is manageable, therapeutic and satisfying and most importantly, a window of opportunity for further bonding activities with my girls.

Mummy adapted the Earl Grey Milk Tea cupcakes recipe and with Adri's help, we baked our version of the Milk tea cuppies last Sunday (29 May)!

Mummy is extremely glad to have involved Adri in the baking process. Unlike the previous round where she observed and had fun decorating the end product, this time round, Adri helped to sieve the flour, mix the batter and arrange the cups! She had even ingeniously suggested adding choc chips into the plain milk tea cuppies for an added variety that lil kiddos may prefer!

Adri sure had fun! Mummy? Without a doubt! :D

What's Adri Writing?

It took me a while to realise that Adri had embedded not senseless scribblings but purposeful writings of 'Ashlynn is 2' (mistakes evident) and 'Adrielle, K1B (her class)' during her drawing time!

This is absolutely amazing! Daddy spelt 'Ashlynn' for Adri just last weekend and I introduced a new set of sight words (see pic) to Adri yesterday and viola, she put the words together!

Adri does have some good linguistic sense! :) Adri's writing! :D
