What's Adri Writing?

It took me a while to realise that Adri had embedded not senseless scribblings but purposeful writings of 'Ashlynn is 2' (mistakes evident) and 'Adrielle, K1B (her class)' during her drawing time!

This is absolutely amazing! Daddy spelt 'Ashlynn' for Adri just last weekend and I introduced a new set of sight words (see pic) to Adri yesterday and viola, she put the words together!

Adri does have some good linguistic sense! :) Adri's writing! :D

Hershey's Choc Chip Muffins

One of my 2012 resolutions is to start baking. As advised by colleagues who are feverishly passionate about baking, I embarked on my first baking experience of the last 19 years (the last being 19 years ago, during home economics lessons) last Thursday with the use of Betty Crocker's cake mix!

Verdict - really idiot-proof (highly apt for an extreme novice like me)! Nice! The girls had one each, hubby wasn't 'spared' and the rest went to helper and I. Gosh, that's going to be a lot of weight gained! Nonetheless, I shall aim to bake muffins from scratch! Soon, really soon...and make it into yet another mummy-daughter bonding time!

:)

Lil' Cupcakes!

Mummy decided there's never going to be a 'perfect' time for baking; there's never going to be a weekday where I'll reach home early enough/have nothing to mark and there's never going to be a weekend where we don't have to ferry the kiddos to and fro enrichment classes and attend to them! Decided, I'll bake when I feel like it!

Reached home close to 6pm yesterday and I decided to have my first try at baking cupcakes from scratch (instead of using cake mix). My only baking experience was back in Sec 2, when I took Home Economics classes! Tried hard to tap into my prior knowledge bank and recall the teeny winy bits that I could remember of those lessons (taken 19 years ago!)

A simple task that would usually take a non-novice some 30min took me some 2 hours! Boy, I even had great difficulty fixing up my mixer (Hee...)

All throughout the baking session, I was texting my ex-pupil (yes, u heard me right. This is a teacher, an adult, asking a teenager for guidance)!

It was close to 9pm by the time the cupcakes had cooled down enough and were ready for decoration.

Adri had great fun decorating the cupcakes; she didn't want to end the day til she had decorated every single of the 8 cuppies. Mummy had fun bonding with Adri; something we were doing for the first time! :) Ashlynn had a go at decorating the cuppies too, however, she only decorated one, her very own. It was quite messy when Ashlynn was at work (see pic with two cuppies on a plate. Could you guess who decorated each?)

The vanilla cupcakes tasted nice, though a tad sweet (Mummy had already reduced the amount of sugar added but guess the reduction wasn't substantial enough). Given that they were painstakingly decorated by Adri, no one could 'resist' them!

What next? Mummy is probably going to get Adri to help whip up a cheese cake. I would love to have a go at baking egg tarts too!

Til the next time I 'feel' like baking again... :)

Activity in the Kitchen!

Now that Adri is getting older, I thought it's time to extend the mother-daughter bonding time to the kitchen! Mummy now has her dream kitchen and she's definitely going to make good use of it!

This mummy is a terrible cook and I'm quite happy the way I am (guilt level - ZERO!). Am still quite pleased with not cooking and still unbothered about being unable to cook. However, I thought i would explore some simple activities with Adri, be it in the name of fun or simply for exposure!

Just minutes ago, Adri requested for a watermelon freeze! My brave girl stood centimetres from the blender (she's usually afraid of loud noises and would cover her ears) and observed Mummy at work with the ice cubes and slices of watermelon. Adri said little but I'm sure she sure was observing how the mechanics of the blender reduced the sizeable ice cubes to a semi-solid state!

Verdict: She decided she still preferred Ribena freeze! She requested for Ribena in her watermelon freeze and ta-da, she's now happily sipping her Watermelon-Ribena freeze!

Next aim: decorate lil'cupcakes! (Mummy will get the recipe sorted out real soon)

:)
